The Importance of Containment During Mold Cleanup

1/9/2020 (Permalink)

Specialist using protective gear, bottle spray on hand pointing at a wall with mold Containment is the creation of isolation barriers to ensure mold contamination does not spread to other areas of a facility

Steps Involved During Mold Cleanup

Mold cleanup can be lengthy and complicated. That is why you should rely on mold remediation experts who know the best way to remove the fungus and prevent it from coming back.
Containment is an important part of the process. It keeps the spores limited to one area and prevents them from spreading to other sections of your Pembroke, KY, building.
Professionals will use advance containment techniques to isolate the infected area. They may use negative air pressure or chambers to keep the mold spores in one location. They may physically separate the contaminated items from the rest of the property, as well. They will also likely turn off any air conditioners or heaters that could transfer the mold to other parts of the building.
Of course, the mold cleanup does not end with containment. Below is a list of the other steps involved in the process.

Assessment

The experts will use different technologies to search for the mold damage. This can be tricky since mold often grows in hidden areas of a property.

Air Filtration

Once the mold has been contained, the pros will use HEPA vacuums and air scrubbers to capture the tiny spores. This will further prevent the fungus from spreading during black mold cleanup.

Removing Contaminated Items

Any porous items affected by mold will be removed and thrown out. The cleaners will then use antimicrobial or antifungal treatments to eliminate the mold colonies.

Cleaning Your Belongings

Many items, including furniture and electronics, can be saved after mold contamination. The items will be fully sanitized so they can be safely used again. The experts will also deodorize your company assets.

Restoration

Mold removal sometimes requires the destruction of building materials such as drywall and subfloors. The restoration process can include the replacement of these items or possibly the reconstruction of an entire room.
Once the building has been restored, the mold cleanup is complete. You and your employees can then return to the property and get back to work.

4 Storm Preparation Tips for Your Business

1/9/2020 (Permalink)

4 Storm Preparation Tips for Your Business

When floodwater rises, you want to make sure your business is prepared. A good water damage repair and restoration company in Hopkinsville, KY can help you fix a flooded building, but you can take steps to limit the extent of the devastation by preparing your business for the possibility of flooding ahead of time.

1. Ensure your building for flood protection.

Businesses that are located in a flood plain definitely need flood insurance. Flooding can occur anywhere, however, so protection against flood water is a good idea no matter where your business is. Most insurance companies offer flood insurance against the water damage caused by heavy rain and storms, so talk to your agent about your coverage options.

2. Back up data and files.

Your business relies on a lot of information, and it is important to protect that information no matter what disaster befalls you. Keep copies of client or vendor contact information in a safe place that will be unaffected by flooding. It is also a good idea to back up insurance information that you will need to get your business up and running again.

3. Conduct routine maintenance to safeguard your business.

If flooding is a regular occurrence in your area, consider purchasing a sump pump. Inspect and clean gutters and storm drains at least once a week. Know where your most valuable items are stored and make sure that they are safe or easily retrievable.

4. Have a clear emergency plan.

Plan the best evacuation route ahead of time. Post the route map in common areas, and communicate the plan well to employees. Knowing how to respond in an emergency can help save lives and minimize damage.

A flooded building does not have to mean the end of your business in Hopkinsville, KY. With the right preparation, you can protect its most vital aspects from water damage when flood water rises.

3 Ways To Prevent Floods at Your Business Property

12/31/2019 (Permalink)

River Feale bursts its banks during post-storm flooding and encroaches onto neighbouring pasture farmland River causes flooding in Pembroke, KY

3 Ways To Prevent Floods at Your Business Property

When your Pembroke, KY, commercial property sustains flood damage, the results can be costly and have far-reaching effects on its future. Flooding can cause the weakening of building materials, mold growth and ruin inventory. If you own a business property and want to protect it from water damage, there are a few precautions you can take to lower the overall risk.

1. Realize That Floods Have Many Sources

When you think of water damage and floods, you might imagine torrential storms that cause outdoor flood water to invade indoor spaces. However, before you can take precautions that prevent floods, it is important to understand that they have a variety of sources. Water damage can occur when plumbing fixtures and pipes are weak, old or become frozen and burst. Sewage issues may cause toilets to overflow, which may cause floor and ceiling damage to the upper floors of your building. Having a flood checklist could help you stay vigilant about preventing possible sources.

2. Identify Possible Risks

Because flood damage can be widespread when it occurs, understanding your building’s risks may help you prevent it. For example, if your property’s plumbing has not been inspected in some time, it may be wise to call in a plumber and have the system checked for leaks and worn pipes. If you do business in an area that sees freezing winter weather, learn how to insulate outdoor and exterior wall pipes and water lines to ensure they do not burst when the mercury starts to drop.

3. Create a Flood Control Plan

Having a storm damage and flood control protocol can help you and your employees react calmly and efficiently during such an emergency. If each person who works in your building understands and follows the plan during a flood, serious flood damage might be avoided. Mark building exits clearly and educate your workers about how to evacuate during a flood and post numbers to your water removal and restoration service on every floor, in bathrooms and in the employee lounge.
Preventing flood damage at your Pembroke, KY, business can be challenging. However, when you have a plan in place, avoiding serious issues may be possible.

Water-Damage Insurance: A Smart Business Investment

9/25/2019 (Permalink)

There is a desk with eye glasses a fifty dollar bill and a paper that says "Flood Insurance" Flooding and water damage is usually covered by two different insurance policies

Water is a resource that humans, animals and plants use for hydration, recreation and irrigation. It’s when water flows where it doesn’t belong that problems can occur. Water damage is one of the costliest emergency expenses a business can sustain. Proper insurance coverage can protect your Elkton, KY, business from unexpected financial loss.

Sources of Water-Related Damage

Because water is such a plentiful natural resource with endless uses, most dwellings are susceptible to losses caused directly or indirectly by water. Overlooked maintenance, severe weather or other unforeseen events can be associated with the following sources of damage:

  • Broken pipes or slow leaks
  • Water heater, evaporative cooler or specialized equipment leaks
  • Toilet malfunction
  • Refrigerator leaks
  • Municipal engineering malfunctions, such as water-main breaks or dam breaches
  • Weather-related events, including extreme freezing, snowmelt and extreme rain

Your business insurance coverage is your first line of defense against most forms of potentially costly water damage.

Primary Insurance

It is recommended you confirm with your insurance agent that you have adequate coverage for various types of water-related damage. Many business owners fail to procure adequate coverage, although property damage from leaks or storm events is quite common. When it comes to flooding, your business insurance will generally carry an exclusion, which means an additional policy will be required to address flood damage.

Flood Insurance

Flood insurance coverage for buildings and contents is government-issued, though it does require an insurance agent to broker the plan. The policies generally cover property loss, structural damage and water cleanup by a specialized restoration company; some plans cover lost revenue. It is important to assess your flood risk when purchasing commercial property as certain levels of risk can require mandatory flood policies.

It is not uncommon for commercial property owners to be underinsured for water damage. Any facility with an HVAC system or a bathroom is at risk, making most businesses vulnerable. Damage from flooding or water leaks can break the bank if your business isn’t properly insured. It may be useful to have your coverage evaluated to confirm you have the insurance you need to protect your property and your peace of mind.

Understanding the Restoration Process After a Commercial Fire

8/29/2019 (Permalink)

A building on fire, firefighters are putting out the fire and the police is on the scene too Fire damage in Pembroke, KY

Going through a fire at your commercial building in Pembroke, KY, is devastating. Depending on the extent of the fire damage, you've likely lost some valuable property and may even have to down-size your business for a little while during the restoration process. The timeline and exact process differs per fire, but here is what you can expect to go through during the aftermath.

Fire Restoration

Once the fire has been put out, the cleanup process begins. The building will need to be assessed to see what kind of fire damage occurred. You may still be able to operate your business if the structure is secure and the flames were contained to one area. The fire restoration company will tell you if board-up and roof tarp services are needed.

Water Restoration

If the fire was put out with a sprinkler system or a fire hose, you likely suffered some water damage as well. The fire restoration company may be able to help you with the water cleanup as well while they are there. You want to have this taken care of as quickly as possible as the moisture can lead to mold growth.

Odor Removal

Although some items may not have been directly affected by the flames, they may still smell of smoke. This odor can be difficult to get out on your own and is usually part of the restoration process provided by professionals. In addition, they will remove soot from all surfaces and get rid of other fire related smells.
Smoke inhalation can be dangerous, so you be sure to get the all clear before entering back into the building. While it can be tempting to begin cleaning up the fire damage yourself, make sure to document everything and have it assessed beforehand. Hiring a reputable company to assist you in the process can get your business back up and running in a timely process.

What You Should Know About Category 1 Water

6/21/2019 (Permalink)

Category 1 water comes from a leaky faucet

Questions You Might Have About Water Damage

While damage from any type of water can be frustrating, some can be worse than others. For example, it can be easier to handle clean water than contaminated water. Here are a few questions you might have about water damage to your Auburn, KY, business.

1. What Are the Categories of Water Damage?

There are three categories of water that you could potentially come in contact with. The first is Category 1. This water is clean and can come from any source that supplies your building with water. Category 2 is contaminated and may contain harmful chemicals. This category includes water from appliances such as washing machines or overflowing toilets with urine. Category 3 is also called black water and can be highly contaminated. This includes sewage and flood waters.

2. Where Exactly Does Category 1 Water Come From?

You can expect Category 1 water to come from any source that supplies clean water to your building. A common one is the supply line to your plumbing fixtures. It can also come from leaky faucets, such as those in sinks and showers, or water fountains. Essentially, any sanitary water source will produce this category of water.

3. How Do You Deal With Category 1 Water?

The way that you handle clean water will be similar to the way you handle other categories of water. It is important to remove any excess moisture from your business, whether it is contaminated or not, to prevent damage to the structure of your building and to your belongings. The good news is that this type of water may require less extensive sanitization.

If you experience a broken pipe or other emergency, it is a good idea to hire a water restoration company. They can determine the extent of the damages, provide cleanup and repairs and offer services to salvage any affected belongings. This will help you to get your business back up and running quickly to reduce loss of profit.

How Does the Mold Remediation Process Work?

4/12/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO was able to clean and sand the affected area and spray an antimicrobial in order to prevent future growth.

Mold Remediation Method

While there are some instances where mold cleanup can be a simple process, there are other times when the remediation process is extensive, requiring a specialized and certified team of experts. Toxic black mold is one of these instances. However, while the fungal species may be unique, the remediation process is the same in every case.

1. Personal Protection

Before working in a contaminated property, all personnel will get ready by enlisting all necessary safety protocols. Most fungal infestations will require that workers wear protective clothing, which includes a full bodysuit, mask, eyewear and gloves. In normal conditions, mold is not healthy to breathe in, but when dealing with toxic mold, the precautions are potentially lifesaving.

2. Containment

Toxic black mold and any mold, for that matter, requires a containment protocol, meaning that the infestation needs to be quarantined from the rest of the property. Teams will seal the contaminated areas with plastic sheeting, making sure to seal the seams. This is done to prevent the spreading of mold spores.

3. Tear Out

Once contained, the mold will be removed in a process more commonly referred to as tear out. During this phase of the remediation process, the removal experts will remove everything that is contaminated, including carpets, furniture, drywall and insulation. The goal of the tear out phase is to remove all signs of the infestation.

4. Cleaning, Disinfecting and Salvaging

After the mold remediation specialist in the Franklin, KY, area has removed all visible signs of mold growth, he or she will begin the cleaning phase. This is the point where the specialist will disinfect the property and attempt to salvage anything he or she can.

While toxic black mold may lead to a heightened awareness of safety procedures, all molds will use the same remediation methods. Any infestation will start with containment, continue with tear out and finish with cleaning and disinfecting the property.

Is Commercial Smoke Damage Covered by Insurance?

1/12/2019 (Permalink)

Business fire in Hopkinsville, KY

After being exposed to smoke damage from a commercial fire in Hopkinsville, KY, your facility may feel like it will never be the same again. Soot damage and heavy smoke odors may permeate your once functional space. Find answers to some of the most commonly asked-questions about cleaning up after a commercial fire.

Why is Smoke so Damaging?

While a commercial fire is a probable concern for the average businessowner, many may fail to recognize smoke as one of the fire’s most destructive results. Smoke can be very hazardous to these commonplace objects:

  • Electronics
  • Furniture
  • Standard surfaces

Smoke has a polarizing charge which can actually impact the magnetism of most electronic devices. Smoke contains particles made of solids, liquids and gasses. This means that when it settles it can permeate and attach to objects it lands on. That is why smoke tends to leave an ashy film on everything it touches. This sooty film is highly acidic. Soot damage may impact the rate at which objects decay causing them to break or malfunction much sooner than expected.

Does Insurance Cover Loss From Fire Smoke?

Luckily, the average commercial fire insurance policy takes into consideration the rapid degradation that results from smoke damage. The only way to know if your policy covers damage caused by smoke is to check with the insurance company directly. Some plans even account for damage received as a result of a fire at an adjacent business.

Can a Commercial Business Be Fully Restored After Exposure to Smoke?

Although the effects of smoke vary by case, fire restoration professionals in Hopkinsville, KY should be able to evaluate damages and begin the smoke cleaning process. Electronics, photographs, upholstery and more can often be returned to their original state. Look for a cleanup operation that offers key services like odor removal and surface restoration.

As you cope with the consequences of a commercial fire, turn to a professional to safely restore your business. Addressing smoke damage is the first step to achieving total restoration.

Tips for Avoiding Water Damage Claims

Commercial water loss in Oak Grove,KY

Tips: Keep Your Property Safe From Harm

Every year in Oak Grove, KY, hundreds of business claims are filed as a result of water damage. Sometimes accidents are unavoidable; the damage might be the result of a flood, a pipe break or a broken water heater.

These claims can be extremely costly, sometimes totaling ten thousand dollars or more, which could cause insurance rates to go up. And depending on what type you have, your policy might not cover certain things like secondary damage from mold.

Luckily, you can take steps to prevent or drastically reduce the amount of damage your building could sustain and save yourself from having to file a business claim. Here are a few things you can do to help keep your property safe from harm:

1. Leak Sealing

Make sure to inspect your foundation and areas around the exterior. If you find a crack or gap, make it watertight with the appropriate sealant.

2. Pipe Insulation

Any pipes that are exposed or accessible should be completely covered by insulation. If a pipe becomes frozen, it's easy for it to expand and burst. You should be able to find insulating materials at your local hardware store.

3. Drainage

It's important that water is able to drain away from the structure. Any gutters or downspouts should be kept clear of leaves or any other potential blockage, and the drainage areas should be free of debris.

4. Asset Protection

You should make sure that any valuable assets, such as electrical equipment and appliances, are raised above the floor to keep them safe from flooding. Non-waterproof valuables, such as important papers, should be stored in a secure place.

5. Consultation

It may be a good idea to consult with a professional water mitigation company about damage prevention. They can do a thorough inspection to make sure you haven't missed anything, and then give you expert, customized advice.

Filing a business claim for water damage is a hassle no one wants to have to deal with. But by taking the precautions outlined above, you can prevent most damage before it can happen.

Is Your Company Prepared for a Disaster?

Have generator ready to go in case electricity is disrupted in your Franklin,NY business

If you own a business in Franklin,KY, you need to be prepared for any eventuality. A disaster preparedness plan is essential to making sure you and your employees will be safe and your business secure in an emergency situation. Below are some steps you should take to be ready.

1. Plan for Continuity

Business preparedness begins with making sure your company can continue to operate after the disaster has occurred. This means assessing how the company functions, and what equipment and procedures are essential to keep operations functioning. Make a succession of management plan, and have lists of suppliers, shippers and other business resources available in a secure place. Good disaster preparedness also includes having a backup plan for alternate sources in case these key business partners are temporarily unable to work with you. Have a plan for being able to continue to serve your most important customers while your business recovers. Also, review your insurance to ensure that you're covered for any eventuality.

2. Secure Your Building

In addition to consulting with a commercial storm company to conduct a building inspection, you should make sure that you've planned ahead for security and safety. Have generators ready to go in case electricity is disrupted, and see that you have working fire extinguishers and smoke detectors in place. All equipment and large items should be secured, and utility equipment should be raised above ground level to protect it from flooding.

3. Keep Employees Safe

Make sure your employees know what to do in case of emergency. Conduct periodic safety drills and provide training to develop preparedness skills such as first aid and CPR. Have a detailed evacuation plan worked out, but also be prepared for situations where people may have to remain in the building. Stock a complete inventory of emergency items, such as first aid kits, blankets and pillows, battery-powered radios or TVs, and a sufficient supply of food and water.

By following the suggestions outlined above and developing a comprehensive disaster preparedness plan, you can be ready for any eventuality and make sure your company can weather the storm.

How To Deal With Commercial Water Damage Without Breaking the Bank

9/26/2018 (Permalink)

Commercial water loss in Russellville, KY

If your building has recently sustained water damage, you may be feeling frustrated and at a loss as to what to do. After all, not only do you now have to pay for the cost of water cleanup and to replace building contents, but you may also suffer losses due to business interruption. Your local Russellville, KY, water remediation team can help you clean up the damage and help minimize loss as much as possible. However, it is up to you to make the call ASAP.

Before hiring a remediation team, you want to make sure that they cover the type of cleanup you require and that they will work within your budget. Some things to look for on the company's website include the following:

  • Type of water damage repair the company deals with
  • Average cost of remediation
  • Estimated time it takes the team to remediate damage

Commercial Water Loss Restoration

Not all restoration companies are created equal. Some companies deal strictly in residential messes, others deal strictly in commercial damages and others still deal with both. It's important to find a company that can handle commercial cases, as commercial damages are often much more complex and require more careful handling than residential homes. If you hire a team that doesn't know what it's doing, you risk accruing more costs in the long run.

Cost of Remediation

Whether dealing with broken pipes or damage caused by flooding, you should always shop with the price in mind. While cost should never be your number one deciding factor, there are companies out there that overcharge and those that undercharge. If a company's quote is much higher or much lower than other companies', your best bet would be to avoid it.

Efficiency

Above all, you should look for a company that can begin restoration efforts as soon as possible. The longer water is allowed to sit, the more damage it will cause. The best way to minimize water losses is to deal with it immediately, quickly and properly.

Minimize the cost of water damage in your building. Contact your local water cleanup team today to get started.

The Value of Mold Inspections

7/24/2018 (Permalink)

The best advice is to err on the side of safety.

Buying property in Hopkinsville, KY, can be an expensive and risky venture. Added to those costs are the many tests and inspections involved in the process. As you consider whether to add a mold inspection to your list, carefully weigh the cost of the test with the potential costs of serious mold damage and remediation. If you purchase a property where visible mold is a problem, you'll pay for:

• Labor
• Specialized materials
• Use of specialized equipment
• Removal and replacement of home materials (such as drywall and carpeting)

If you're found liable for anything related to a mold problem, you may also end up paying financial damages to the people using your building. Many property owners have found that it is more cost-effective to catch trouble before it has the chance to escalate into much larger problems.

What Good Comes From a Mold Inspection?

Should you pay for an expensive mold inspection? Maybe you already know there's a lot of mold. Visible signs are an obvious indication that there's a problem. However, mold testing may also reveal areas where water is getting into the framing of the building. This allows you to tackle the source of mold trouble, sometimes before mold has the chance to grow. If mold has lead to structural weaknesses, the inspection and resulting remediation efforts could also prevent much more expensive repairs. Finally, if the building was once affected by water damage and has been remediated, the inspection could provide confidence in those results.

Better Safe Than Sorry

The best advice is to err on the side of safety. An investment in a thorough mold inspection up front could potentially save you a lot of money in the end. It's also worth noting that mold is notorious for returning to areas that have once been affected by it. So, your efforts to protect yourself from mold damage in any of your Hopkinsville, KY, properties is a very good idea.

3 Times To Perform Maintenance on Your Business’s Fire Sprinkler System

6/19/2018 (Permalink)

Protecting your Hopkinsville, KY, commercial property from fires and flooding means investing in proper planning.

Protecting your Hopkinsville, KY, commercial building from damage is probably important to you, especially if you are a small business owner who cannot afford the financial impact a fire or flood might cause. There are several actions you can take to reduce the risk of these incidents, such as maintaining your building’s fire sprinkler system. Weekly, monthly and yearly sprinkler maintenance can prevent malfunctions that may cause serious water damage or fail to put out a fire.

1. Weekly

You can keep your building’s sprinkler system operating efficiently by checking each room at the start of the week. Ensure that boxes and other stored items are not stocked too high, as this can affect the sprinkler’s reach and may prevent it from putting out a fire. If you find yourself short on storage space, you may want to consider renting space in a nearby warehouse.

2. Monthly

At the start of each month, have your maintenance people clean the heads of your building’s fire sprinklers. This can be especially important if you own a restaurant or manufacturing business, where grease and grime can clog the heads and prevent the system from working as it should. Call in a fire damage and cleanup service for deep cleaning and for advice about how to keep your sprinklers functional.

3. Yearly

Having your building’s water lines inspected annually by a qualified plumber can prevent line breakage and other issues that may cause your sprinkler system to malfunction and cause flooding. An inspection may uncover problems such as leaks, weak water lines and old plumbing that causes poor water pressure. This kind of yearly sprinkler maintenance can prevent system failure that could be disastrous in case of a fire.

Protecting your Hopkinsville, KY, commercial property from fires and flooding means investing in proper planning. Performing fire sprinkler maintenance each week, month and year can reduce the risk of severe damage to your business. What NIFP Can Offer Your Business

3/30/2018 (Permalink)

Floods never happen during convenient times, which is why having a flood policy is crucial for the modern business owner. However, having a poor or underfunded policy can be as bad as having no policy at all. That’s why the National Flood Insurance Program is here to help out small businesses everywhere by providing thorough commercial insurance that’s designed to meet the real needs of businesses when it comes to the threat of floods. The NIFP

• Is endorsed by FEMA
• Provides up to $500,000 in coverage for commercial properties
• Can help you restock your building in the aftermath of a flood
• Specifically covers damages that result from flooding

By taking into account the needs of small businesses in Franklin, KY, and the severe downtime and closure issues that flooding can cause, this policy is tailored to help businesses of all types keep their doors open in the wake of real disasters.

What It Covers

This commercial insurance policy includes a wide range of what one might commonly find in the workplace. First and foremost, the NIFP plan covers your building and its foundation, which you always need to consider first and foremost when it comes to flooding. It also covers carpeting, pumps and their operating machinery, water heaters, central air conditioning units, walk-in freezers and other crucial parts of your business operations. This policy is designed to protect all of the crucial components of your business that you’ll need to keep things moving forward in the aftermath of a flooding disaster.

What Isn’t Covered

Of course, not even the best commercial insurance plan can cover everything. While the NIFP policy covers your business’s biggest and most important pieces in the event that a flood occurs, it does not protect against any preventable damage caused by moisture, mold or mildew, sewer drain backup (unless caused by flooding), currency (or stock certificates or other papers with assigned value), any belongings outside of the insured building or business interruption. These potential losses, can, fortunately, be covered by a supplemental policy to get you all of the protection your business deserves.

Fire Restoration: Let the Professionals Handle Smoke Damage

2/13/2018 (Permalink)

After a fire is over, you’re probably going to have fire and smoke damage to contend with. It can be overwhelming, at first, especially after an emergency to know what to do next. How do you move forward? How do you get your home back to the way it used to be? Often, it takes the work of specialists who have the training in fire restoration to save your home. Here are three things to expect when having a professional fire restoration.

1. Inspection

It can be hard to inspect your business for soot damage on your own. After all, you may not know what the extent of the damage is without a professional eye. Specialists will be able to look at your building and give you a fair pricing for the work it needs.

2. Cleaning

One of the biggest jobs that come with fire restoration is the cleaning process. This includes smoke cleaning and removing all of the soot from your belongings. Without professional cleanup, the smoke damage can remain in your company for years to come. Even the odor itself can be difficult to neutralize. A thorough cleaning will guarantee that all restorable items are scrubbed clean. Additionally, air can be cleaned through use of air purifiers and fogging equipment.

3. Restoration

Once the cleaning is complete, the restoration can begin. Restoration usually involves getting your business back into its previous condition. This can be as simple as a new paint job, new carpeting or completely new drywall or construction. Keep in mind that restoration companies intend to bring your house back to the way it was before the fire.

Smoke damage can be difficult to get out of your home without the proper equipment. It’s important for you to understand the process that goes into smoke cleaning before you look for someone in your Hopkinsville, KY to help you take care of it.

How to Clean Up Commercial Water Damage

1/11/2018 (Permalink)

No matter how well-prepared you are, there’s always a chance that extreme weather, mechanical failures, or other problems you can not foresee can lead to water damage. When that happens, the important thing is to respond promptly. Water cleanup and repair for broken pipes are both simpler when they are seen to promptly. That means your place of business needs a plan for facilities maintenance that includes clear lines of communication about emergencies.

Tips For Your Emergency Plan

When a situation involves damage from water in Franklin, KY it’s important to remember that the quantity of water exposure and the length of time the exposure persists are both factors in the kind of damage that will need to be repaired. Here are five tips that will help you and your team respond faster when there’s an emergency.

1. Find a restoration company with commercial water damage certification and make sure the contact number is in your emergency preparedness folder.
2. Contact your insurance company to make sure you understand what damage is covered and whether your preferred restoration company works with them directly.
3. Identify the locations of water main controls and include shutoff instructions in your plan folder.
4. Construct a chain of command for disaster notification and management within your workplace and include that in the folder so each employee understands who to contact and in what order.

Damage Cleanup

It’s important to remember that cleanup might affect your ability to resume normal operations under certain circumstances. If that happens, it is also good to have a contingency plan that will help your company keep operations as normalized as possible until the entire building is accessible again. Understanding where your greatest risks of damage come from and identifying the most likely areas of the building to be affected can help with that a lot.

Water damage in Franklin, KY is both serious and largely preventable. Reacting quickly to an emergency and turning off the water supply until damage cleanup is effected is the key.

Apartment flood in Simpson County

12/1/2017 (Permalink)

There were 2 apartments affected when a water line burst in the bathroom of one apartment. The tenants contents were saturated and had to be moved in order to begin the drying process. While part of the crew met with the manager and got paperwork signed and explained the process to everyone involved, the rest of the team set to work. We had to pack up contents, move furniture and extract water. We were then able to set the drying equipment to begin getting things back to normal. Luckily our SERVPRO of Christian, Todd, Logan and Simpson Counties team was on site in time to keep the damage from spreading any further. After 4 days of drying equipment running and then spraying antimicrobial spray we were able to get things back "Like it never even happened."
